I'd say your experience is the rule. Here a large number of liberal idiots post. It is not at all representative of a lot of folks who consider themselves liberal. I also believe dashole is over the line this time. His statements have no defense. His stubborness will make him look petty. I believe he has crashed and burned. Time will tell.
