I've never been a big lover of the French. Lived in Paris a year so I know them well. The only two fist-fights I've had as an adult were with French guys. Beat them both by the way. And French women tend to be snooty.

But you have to understand that Bush started the fight with the Germans and French. His first trip to Europe he treated them like vassal states and ordered them around, broke his campaign promise to negotiate and sign the Kyoto Treaty, told them he was deploying SDI and scrapping arms control pacts with Russia, etc. All without caring what they thought.

Even though Bush actually lost the election here, he acted like a dictator with them who had a giant mandate. The europeans, unlike US readers, are aware that Bush stole the election. The Florida voter roll story was published in Euro papers not not in the US except Harpers magazine I think. Anyway, the schism with Bush was predictable.

Dont expect it to improve. But they dont hate America just Bush. Two different things. They loved Clinton. And during the Clinton years we had the healthiest global economy ever due to allies being very cooperative about doing business, and vice versa. Now the global economy is fractured and paralyzed.
