Actually, they tend to favor his "Discourses on Livy", which extol republican government. "The Prince" is seen as a sort of ploy to get the petty nobility to behave better out of self-interest, and to promote the unification of Italy by appealing to one of the greater ruling families and instructing them on how to add to their territory........
