Spirit Airlines Taps Internap to Guarantee High-Speed Internet Performance for Mission-Critical Applications
ATLANTA & FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Mar 19, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Internap(R) Network Services Corporation (NASDAQ: INAP), the leading provider of performance-based routing services over the Internet, today announced that Spirit Airlines, the nation's largest privately-held airline, has chosen Internap to provide high-speed Internet access for its reservations, back-office and pilot scheduling systems.
Spirit Airlines flies between 14 of the nation's top business and leisure destinations, including Atlantic City, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Myrtle Beach, New York, Oakland, San Juan, PR, and five Florida cities - Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach.
Spirit will utilize Internap's secure Private Network Access Points (P-NAPs) in Miami and Chicago as termination points for its high-speed data traffic. Through these P-NAPs, Spirit will have the ability to directly connect to high-speed Internet backbones in order to transmit and receive Internet data traffic in the fastest and most efficient manner. The circuits will be installed in March.
"An increasing number of high-performance businesses in the airline industry are choosing Internap to deliver reliable, highly redundant Internet connectivity for critical applications from reservation bookings to back-office functions," said Greg Peters, CEO of Internap. "Internap currently provides IP services to five of the top eight airlines and we view Spirit Airlines as a strong addition to this strategic vertical."
"Our business is focused on delivering superior performance. When it comes to Internet connectivity, we've found that at Internap," said David Anderson, chief information officer for Spirit Airlines. "Airlines depend on their ability to communicate internally as an organization and with our customers, no matter the conditions or circumstance. Internap provides a superior technical platform for these critical connections."
Spirit chose Internap's "network-of-networks" business model because it promises to deliver 100% availability and superior performance to power e-commerce initiatives. Internap addresses these performance-driven needs by using the backbones of all major Internet carriers and employing proprietary intelligent routing technology to monitor and route its customers' traffic, based on pre-set, customer-selected criteria. This "network-agnostic, customer-centric" approach means Internap can provide a premium managed network solution that traditional carriers cannot.
Internap backs this promise up with another unique innovation: an industry-leading Service Level Agreement (SLA) that spans the entire Internet, not just one single network. This groundbreaking guarantee covers a broad range of industry metrics, from network availability, packet loss and latency to installation intervals. Internap guarantees 100 percent network availability; packet loss of less than 0.3 percent; and latency of less than 45 milliseconds, across the entire Internet - meeting or exceeding the SLAs that other NSPs apply only to their own network.
