The french were given solemn promises in the BNA act, that they would share in settlement of the west, those promises were broken, partly by circumstances sure, but partly as well by perfidy ..... whatever else is said about it, fact remains we have a national commitment, as long as we have a nation
I agree completely that mastery of two languages minimum is to be encouraged, in fact i think it is an essential fundamental to anything we could reasonably call 'education' .... were i ministre of education, no one would get a high school graduation ticket while remaining unilingual
Still, in BC we have quite a number of tongues other than french that would be more useful to us .... several asian languages for which we have population and trade ties, for a start ..... i would like to see more spanish, the better to relate to and trade with our fellow americanos ..... and for the federal government to take upon itself the right to tell the individual which two languages he must learn - that goes against the grain ... not gonna fly, and it will inevitably set up resentment
... and speaking of resentment -
'I don't give a damn about the polls' - Stephen Harper - cbc.ca
Well Mr Harper, t'is sad i am to hear that, for i fear t'will lead the polls to not care about you .... the choice here was between submitting to rule by imperial fiat, or standing up for the principle of democracy in international decision-making, and i am proud of my prime ministre for choosing well |
