An interesting post, Bill, taking to task my posting for spitefulness, following on the heels of your Wills post.

My own take on all this is that the Reps have learned how to do the spiteful thing better than the Dems. The Dems can't hold a candle to the ways in which, spiteful ways in which to use your term, the Reps attacked Clinton when he was in office.

As for my views about Bush, you are correct, they have hardened over the past six to eight months. Not surprising given the things his administration has done. The move to the further right that appeared soon after the election, just grows. Your views about Bush critics appear to have hardened as well. Let's hope we can all keep a level head in the next weeks and months.

As for the Dems, there is always that line about the wonderful public nature of the fights within the Democratic Party. There is a Will Rogers line which escapes me at the moment. It's the way to have democratic (small d) politics--open debates and arguments.

If you are arguing that Daschle is not being politically wise, I'll certainly give you that argument. He should either be much more seriously critical or just move on to other subjects. Half way criticisms leave him open to these charges. And you know the Reps spend 90% of their time looking for these opportunities.

Politics.!!
