Hawk--the actualy numbers are without a UN resolution only 54 percent support the war. When you ask the general question do we go to war to take Saddam down nearly three-quarters respond positively, and understandably. The true number comes from how the question is posed.

And I noted early on, from the day Powell made his first intelligence presentation to the UN, that the focus of strategy of the US wasn't aimed to play its fiddle of public relations for the UN, but rather the PR tune was aimed at the American people in order to draw at least the minimally required support base by which to pull off what he's done.

That, ultimately, to him, the UN support would have been nice to have, and it would have been especially good for Blair, but all Bush needed was to convince a sliver over 50 percent of Americans for his war. Once that was achieved it became doable--no matter what Blix found or reported.
