I have faith that the emotions of the moment will dissipate in the months to come and all the reasons that the US for years entertained a balanced foreign policy and diplomatic sensitivity will become clear to this administration.

The public diplomacy will heal. There will be some slap-on-wrist payback for show. It is Canadian MPs acting like Rumsfeld these days. The rift between Canada and the US will not be long lasting but rift between the US and France has deep roots, the structure of the relationship has changed, it will take some time for a new relationship to fully grow. France actively worked against the US in a matter the US considered a national security matter. It is much more than simply emotional.
