Agreed. I'd even venture to say that the incipient war against Iraq carries the risk of a nuclear showdown.... I mean, the Iraqi military won't surrender without a fight and that entails heavy losses for US troops. Besides, although the US will likely control Al-Jazeera's war coverage (Al-Jazeera's but a CIA sting), other Arab media will broadcast Iraqi-stamped footage anyway.

Furthermore, you shouldn't underestimate the frustration of other, powerful countries... that have the capacity to provide Iraq with satellite pictures of your ground troops/facilities. If Scud missiles keep hitting you bang-in-the-middle, don't chalk it up to mere luck....

At that point --probably about the start of the 2004 election campaign-- the White House may mull over the idea to cut its losses with a few nuclear blows....
