Well, besides the reason of international laws, another bottom line is that the other main power nations e.g. France Russia Germany and China, etc. don't want to sit idly and watch U.S./Israel take over the Middle East countries and the world's main oil fields by force. That will certainly be a great threat to those nations' basic interests or even to their survival. The world already see clearly Iraq war for U.S./Israel is just the first step for their Middle East agenda. The next big take over targets include other major OPEC countries in the region.

On one side is a powerful aggressor with a very greedy boss behind it, on the other side are the main powers above who would desperately defend their interests in the region. That's where the real conflicts and the risk of world war III lies, IMO.
