Until you've been to France you haven't been to a civilised country. All countries have their faults, but civilisation is one of France's attributes. It's hard to find many signs of civilisation and tolerance in George Bush's America and in his home state of Texas. I have a daughter living in North Carolina. She tells me that in the public schools there evolution is NOT taught. She also says that in the alliance between the Christian Right and the Jews the theme that is preached is that the Jews deserve their 'Promised Land' in other words no room for Palestinians at all! Is this a blip in the history of America or we seeing the beginnings of a facist state or at the very least a blurring of the separation of Church and State - surely the answer to the latter is 'yes' emphatically
