Aha! You've got it! People still approach those things in terms of "industrial standard" or "consumer standard". It is all the same thing know. Technology is implemented in a logical level, not at the physical level. few years ago a piece of hardware for telcos was guaranteed not to rust for 20 years because it was implemented with metal, you known relays, moving pieces and such stuff. But today it is implemented by software. Use and throw it way when the new stuff is out. Now, go tell this to the accountats used to have the stuff in their books for decades...
