The technology gap is significant and continues to grow

How would you support that the technology gap is growing? Technological innovation is typically open source. Whose technology? There's a lot of technology that isn't even created in the US. We commericialize a lot of it and the consumer [that be you] makes the association of the commercialization with the innovation. The Japanese have been competing with the US in supercomputing and we've been taking turns as of late with who has the most capable supercomputing power. The Japanese have won three of the last four Nobel prizes in Chemistry. The CATSCAN was a British invention; MRI was a shared innovation between Britain and the US. The US has turned to Brazil as the world leader in the field of bio-virus to combat the virus affecting the grape vines in Napa Valley. The most widely used firewall in the US Federal Government is Israeli code. The technology gap that the US may have had has been rapidly closing over decades. Microsoft code is being written in India. Electonics fabrication is dominated by the East. Intel design centers in Taiwan. Most recent job growth in the US has been from three sectors in the economy: Government, retail, and food service. High tech jobs and manufacturing are increasingly exported. The US is evolving towards a country of government employees, waiters and department store clerks.
