Marines take 250 surrendering Iraqis: reports
There are reports 250 Iraqi soldiers have been taken prisoner by US Marines under British command as they advanced to the strategic port of Umm Qasr.

British troops say they are hoping to secure local ceasefires when they find Iraqi soldiers who do not wish to fight.

British army spokesman Colonel Chris Vernon says troops are carrying documents called Articles of Capitulation they will ask soldiers to sign.

"It gets them to tell us who they are, the name of their unit, brigade or division," he said.

"We're asking the senior commanders to sign it. They agree to a certain weapons posture which we will determine dependent upon their posture, and just basically it gets them to agree to us putting [them] under a limited level of control but not one that totally restricts them."
