thanks, Sun Tzu. That's why I post here, to get well-informed and well-reasoned responses like your post.

The Turks seem to do everything possible, to harm our war effort. They kept 60,000 of our troops out of the war, by stringing us along and then saying no at the last possible moment. Now, they are doing the same thing with 2 aircraft carriers, not allowing overflight or refueling, but stringing along negotiations, so our assets stay out of position.

The Turks have moved from "strategic ally" to "tactical ally" to "independant regional power playing their own game". It would be a serious mistake, to agree to (any more of) their soldiers going into Iraq. It will hugely complicate our post-war plans. I'd almost prefer to have Iranian soldiers in Iraq, than the Turks. The Iranians would be easier to push out, later.
