If you watch/listen to Bush's speeches and Rumsfeld's speeches, we are saying we will get out of Iraq as soon as an Iraqi civilian government is in place, and won't stay one minute longer than that.

So, I would discount anybody who urges the US to engage in colonialism.

We don't need colonies, because we aren't very good at colonies. We do well at doing business with people in other countries, which gives us access to the cream, who tend to think in a way which is compatible with the way that we think.
