Iraqi Random Musing Zachary Latif 17:54
I just had a thought on Iraq, that it was a war divided into two phases. The first one was to secure the vast Rumalia oil fields in the south, which is what the current battle is all about. As I stated in the Arab East Trilogy Iraq's vast oil deposits are concentrated in the Shi'ite south (with Kuwait, eastern Saudi Arabia and western Iran, which all share ethno-cultural and geo-historical characteristics), therefore the oil wells will fall to American hands over the next few days. The next phase of the battle will be Baghdad and even though the preliminary stage is bombing what is noticeably absent is the colletaral damage, specific vehicles such as tanks, ammunition depots and other military craft have been damaged but not buildings & homes, which remain remarakably intact. Iraq will know its freedom soon and it seems that the Iraqi government is pretty quiet these days, I suspect that Saddam must be dead or incapacitated.
Mass defections within the next few days is now a very real possibility with Iraqis realising their leader Saddam has not appeared in public since he has either been incinerated or too afraid of being incinerated. Either way his authority is waning and "shock & awe" will have such an influence on the Iraqi pysche that Baath officials will cower before their American liberators. It only remains to be seen when (weeks or probably even days) the leadership of Iraq will decide to yield to the dominant force and capitulate in the time honoured Iraqi tradition of surviving in the shifting sands.
This will be a war in which the Anglo-American dominance will be forever seared on humanity! North Korea and Iran will shirk from bellowing their hollow threats for they cannot entertain the fate of Iraq where the population is being liberated bloodlessly from its shackles.
Where are the detractors and doves, who wept for the spilt blood of the Iraqi populace? The invasion of Iraq will have made our world a better place where nations and peoples will instinctively realise that tyranny and aggression is no longer a valid form of governance. "Shape up or ship out" is the message that is being sent to Kim Jong II Sun and other vicious dictators. No longer can he hijack his innocent population, since the war on Iraq has adeptly demonstrated the efficacy with which Saddam was dispatched (or neutralised since he seems to be dead or hiding) in the beginning of the war. Civilian casualities in Iraq have not been reported and it can be shown that within totalitarian nations a change of government can occur without spilling of innocent blood as the world previously believed. |
