Today's events deserve reflection and comment. My impressions are one of awe and sorrow. Awe for the demonstrated might of the U.S., sorrow for the innocents killed today, sorrow for the "necessity" of war. Things are progressing smilingly and according to plan. As the bombs exploded over Bagdad, and like the mushroom clouds of dust and debris rising over the city, the markets ghoulishly celebrated and rose. What a demonstration of power and might.

There are undoubtedly lessons learned. Some states/people may well submit, others may now come to the conclusion that only the possession of WMD (nuclear), guarantees independence and respect.

In respect to Weapons of Mass Destruction, where are the Iraqi ones? Speculation was that Iraq would use them early. Use em or lose em. Didn't happen. They didn't even torch their oil wells.

But, on the economic front, the self fulfilling prophecy of oil and gold collapsing when the war starts has come true. The "coalition of the willing" will undoubtedly easily win the "war". But they have have unleashed growing resentment and hatred toward the west. And now, Europe is divided politically, and great potential exists for political and economic problems in the wake of these events.

The war is not over yet, and political opposition in various countries is still building. Economic fundamentals are taking a back seat. Today is a day of reflection.
