Hi Jeff,
Louisville played great tonight. It was a toss-up whether to choose them or Mississippi State to eventually knock off Oklahoma in the Sweet 16-- and I chose the latter. If that doesn't happen, my East bracket is a mess.
Great thinking!!! Wrong conclusion??? In close calls like that, I'd always favor the more experienced coach, in this case Rick Pitino. In any event, my thoughts were very similar to your own. I just couldn't see Oklahoma making it all the way to the Final 4, so I looked for a team to knock them off. In the East bracket, I saw only 3 teams with any real potential, aside from Oklahoma. That was Louisville, Syracuse and Mississippi State. The Orangemen are too young (and thusly inexperienced) to seriously contend, so that left the Bulldogs and the Cardinals. Of the two coaches, Pitino and Stansbury, I like Pitino better. And besides that, Louisville is one of only 3 teams this year to have defeated Kentucky. That said, Oklahoma shouldn't be a pushover for anyone. When they're playing good, they're really, really good. And when they're playing bad, they're still fairly good. But Oklahoma has been inconsistent this year, so they can be "had" by someone.
Went 3-1 in tonight's early games. Missed on Colorado. My mistake. Upon re-examination, I should have gone with Michigan State. My call. My bad...
