In the case of a formal declaration of war, the congress must approve. No mention of the UN.

The idea that the US is subject to approval of the UN in foreign affairs is absurd. Acting contrary to the wishes of the UN may subject us to the scorn or sanction of UN members. But first, they have to give the inspectors a chance. The UN is a joke. A bad joke.

The US, like all other countries, is entitled to act in its own self interest anywhere in the world.
