This is is a very important principle to keep in mind when reading the news. The best protection against this active deception is to read the news from all sides and contrast them with the interests of each side to come to your own decision.

Just finished watching about thirty minutes of BBC News on the Iraq war. The difference between that and American television is large, to say the least. The BBC commentators distance themselves from both Iraqi and US claims, ask pointed questions of one another and folk they interview. By contrast, US television, even ABC which I've watch mostly, look to be largely cheerleading.

If you can find BBC News, I recommend.
