But I don't believe a the government of a member nation of the United Nations should remove another government of a member nation of the United Nations without the support of the United Nations. 1. So if the US were to withdraw from the UN, the war would be OK. Right? 2. If two nations are not members of the UN, then they can slaughter each other to extinction with no problem. Right? 3. Every war before the creation of the UN was good and justified. Right? THIS is the distinguishing characteristic? Membership in a debating club?
I also take into consideration that nearly half of Iraq's population are children under the age of 15, neither of whom should be eliible to look up into the sight of Shock and Awe. So: If you're population is elderly, such as much of Europe's and also Japan, it would be OK to annihilate them, right? If instead of Iraq, we had taken on France, that's OK, right? And if you don't want to be attacked, the answer is to ban abortion and all birth control and do everything you can to get your population to breed like flies. Right?
I'm further disappointed how our nation historically has treated the smaller nations, oftentimes propping up a dictator like Saddam who'd allow our corporations to strip the resources from those nations while doing little, if anything, for the people who actually owned those resources. Before western nations moved into Saudi and Iraq, that oil just made for sand that messed up camel's hooves. The coipper in the Andes was just discolored dirt.
It took work, knowledge and capital- -lots of it- -to make those resources worth something. Is that not worth something?
AND the labor was paid, BTW.
Perhaps their example proves what can be accomplished, that warring behavior isn't necessary at all. ?????????????????????????????????????????????? THE US GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO SET UP THOSE DEMOCRACIES PRECISELY BECAUSE IT HAD DEFEATED THE PREVIOUS GOV'TS IN WAR!
You don't get the connection? Without the war ending the previous gov't, there would be no democracy.
The US never had the support of the South Vietnamese people. How could we have possibly have won a war no one there, except the government which the US installed, wanted to have fought? The US could have won that war and, in the following peace, built a prosperous democracy.
Is it your contention that the Communist dictatorship that followed the US pullout you caused is better? And, yes, that includes me! Yeah, I'm sure it does.
>>>The Soviets didn't get to invade and dominate all of Europe because of the US.<<<
It is right and proper for the US to come to the aid of its allies when they are threatened. DUH! GERMANY AND JAPAN WERE NOT OUR ALLIES IN WW2! THEY WERE OUR ENEMY! You didn't know this? AFTER the war, for the purpose of holding of the Communist bear, the US FORMED an alliance known as NATO. And then provided most of the muscle to hold that bear back.
>>>Taiwan is independent and a democracy because of the US.<<<
However, Bush's preemptive war strategy now opens the door for China to invade Taiwan.</i? So you think Communist China's threats to invade Taiwan did not start until now? Wanna bet?
>>>Technologically, the US is the leading nation. We have developed drugs and preventative strategies that have saved billions.<<<
Indeed, we are. Our science invested wind and solar power, however it is Germany and Japan which are marketing it, this while we are now at war in Iraq. Regarding the drug business, what a great hold the pharmaceutical lobby has on our politicians. And look at the high costs people pay for those drugs. I'll give you partial credit here: US drug prices are higher than the rest of the world. HOWEVER: Costs in general are higher. Salesmen earn more. Pharamacists earn more. The land the manufacturing plants and pharmacies are on costs more. AND the companies attempt to earn back ALL their R&D costs here in the US> AND the FDA has the most expensive drug qualification costs in the world. Other nations ride on our costs: if the FDA says OK, so so they. BUT if you spread those R&D and drug qualification costs worldwide, it drive UP drug prices in Botswana and Tanzania and ... Is this what you want?
Why is it every time the GOP gets hold of the executive branch we see so many small business bankruptcies? You don't. Republicans owned the 1920's and small businesses did fine. They died in the following FDR administration. Are you ready to charge him? Reagan did pretty good. Eisenhower did OK. What you see now is post-bubble syndrome. And Slick Willie and Co. caused that bubble.
I want my country to promote peace Neville Chamberlain wanted to promote peace too.
The streets of Hell are paved with goof intentions.
to at least make South and Latin American nations better than Cuba; US copper companies provide jobs in South America and you condemn them for it.
I want my country to appreciate people of color for reasons other than cheap labor Do you offer to pay your gardener and mechanic twice what they ask? Yes? No?
Do you call this LOGIC???? Are you serious? If so, you're in worse shape than I thought. |
