Actually we are a republic, a representative government. We elected the president, congress approved that he could take the steps he felt were needed. Washington and Jefferson were both concerned about the dangers of a democracy. That why they built the perfect system to keep the masses from having too much say. The masses are not always enlightened, they can be wrong. Are we going to give classified info to the public and let them vote on it? You might like that, but it is not form of government we live under. Amazing how many people don't even know the type of government we live under. Speaking one's mind is fine, until one is giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
