I understand your position but I think what you call politics is better understood as big picture planning.


I hope they surrender, because if they don't, we are following exactly the war plan Saddam was counting on. We are compressing his Guard back into the Cities, where our "ROI" makes it extremely expensive to dig them out.

We will then be faced with having the 101st go "House to House" in Baghdad and take heavy casualties because we will not level the area, while the anti-war folk step up their demonstrations. Exactly the strategy that will give Saddam his best chance. We are fighting this war his way. Bad, bad, choice. A quick surrender is our best bet now.

I would not trade one 101st trooper for 100 Iraqis.
