I've heard it said that parts of the UN do work well, fulfill useful functions in reasonably efficient manner ... don't know how true this is, don't know much about it .... clearly the security council is flawed, with any member having veto power over others .... but there is more to it, organisations that work, they say
We need something of a parliament where nations can come together, as democratic as possible .... the alternative is to beg for left-over freedoms at the back doors of Washington, one of us at a time ... to preserve the independence of each we must learn to work together - it's a paradox sure, but an old one, inherent in the formation of every civilised society
Canada could be a leader and driving force in humanitarian and reconstruction efforts, rally such nations as are willing under the UN banner ... it's not like there is a shortage of places in need of help and example .... if the militaristas don't let us do so in one place under the maple leaf and UN flag, in favour of their own propaganda aims, then we could simply do it elsewhere .... but by working with others we could further international cooperation along the way, subject to practicalities that would be the way to go i think |
