If an absolute national emergency exists, perhaps extenuating circumstances exist. Neither Korea nor Vietnam were national emergencies: they were wars of opportunity, wars created by politicians whose sons were not draftable.

In the case of a real national emergency everybody volunteers anyway. Sortof the 911 effect. Thats what we are seeing with these iraqi divisions... how naive of our leaders not to have known this would happen, irrespective of whether SH is a tyrant.

And rebuilding these nations will help our economy,

What is the argument for that again? Do they intend to open the floodgates on iraqi oil and actually generate a surplus such that iraq is paying its own bills? Because from what I read it will be years before the iraqi oilfields are producing optimally.
