At the time, we had a larger concern, the Soviet Union.

I didn't see the Soviets as bogey men at that time. I had come to the conclusion that they had ceased to be much of a threat to the US. My thinking on this was their bureaucracy was similarly entrenched. They had too much to loose by challenging the US.

I though about how we would feel if there was a fanatical Muslim country on our border, say a Muslim Mexico. I thought their position was understandable if not supportable. I didn't think it wise for us to supply the Muslims.

Your knowledge of History is apparently limited. We did not support the Taliban, we supported the Mujahideen. The Taliban emerged later.

I was aware of this, I'd just forgotten temporarily the name of the Mujahideen.

Picky, Picky, you knew what I was referring to.
