The current mess the US is in is Bush's doing. Lizzie, Don't want to get into the political debate, simply offer an alternative to your pessimism. I think that you and most of the world will be shocked at some of the positive developments that happen over the next 12 months. The stock market sent a very strong signal that it agrees. Some of my predictions for the next 12 (maybe 18) months: - A 'new UN' emerges with US, UK, India, (Russia, China) as the core - The EU and NATO collapse - A democratic revolution begins in Iran (and likely succeeds) - Kim Il Jong falls in North Korea, reunification begins - DJIA climbs above 11000 - Israeli / Palestine conflict resolved - Based on the Qatar-model, the Saud family moves towards democratic reform in Saudi Arabia - Oil falls below $20/barrel, OPEC less relevant - India begins economic reforms and becomes major US allie Just a view from the 'Sun will come out tomorrow' corner of the world. I am feeling optimistic for the first time since 9-11. Paul
