Daschle is a good man who speaks the truth. There WAS a diplomatic disaster and everyone should be aware of it.
Powell tried hard but the problems was at the top. There is way to deal with these allies so as to get their cooperation. This work was not done, intentionally I believe. But Bush started off on the wrong foot with Europe back in early 2001. "My way or the highway" doesn't make for international cooperation.

This unilateralism shall cost us a lot going forward. It already is. Losing Turkey for instance. And a lot of other countries who could have shared this awesome and costly responsibility, and would have if Bush had played it with a little more diplomatic largess.
