That is the word that describes it for me: "expression"

For me, a painting expresses a story of meaning and emotion in the same sense that poetry does. If the meaning or emotion is either shallow...or beyond my experience or grasp--then it will do nothing for me. When I used the word "profound" in an earlier post, I did not mean it in any elitist sense--but only in a self referential way...having the power to move in an emotional manner.

I am unable to use drawing or painting to express what I feel; but I am able to tap into the expression of others. We all get cheated (or short-changed) in some ways, I guess. :-)

I would love to be able to paint something or someone I love...but I just have no sense of proportion or spatial relationship. C'est la vie...
