At its First Time at Bat: Alcan Listed Among Most Admired Companies by Fortune
03/10/2003

Montreal, Canada — In its first year of eligibility, Alcan Inc. (NYSE, TSX: AL) has emerged as one of the "World's Most Admired Companies", finishing a strong second in the international metals industry category on Fortune Magazine's global corporate reputation survey. This is the first year Alcan met the size, annual revenue and other requirements set by Fortune for consideration on the World's Most Admired Companies list.

"I have great respect for the companies that are named in the World's Most Admired List. We are obviously pleased to achieve the strong second ranking in the International Metals Industry in our first year of eligibility," stated Travis Engen, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alcan. "At Alcan we strive to be the best in everything we do. Our ranking shows we are making great progress toward that goal."

Each year, Fortune Magazine asks 10,000 executives, directors and security analysts to rate global companies in nine areas: innovation, financial soundness, employee talent, use of corporate assets, long-term investment value, social responsibility, quality of management, quality of products/services and global scope.
