'our tariff against Canadian softwood - before that you had no complaints'

You didn't know me pre-internet ... the wars on Viet Nam and Nicaragua were done well before i got to SI, you have no idea of my stances or actions in '67 or '84 ..... much time had passed between those atrocities on humankind and the time i bought a computer in '96, a year in which your rulers du jour were not shaking their fists at the world, nor shooting very many of us, not napalming any at all to my knowledge, no reports of centroamericanos tortured or murdered, no schools/clinics destroyed recently .... so you see it was a different world then, and being human i had adapted to change ... if you look back on the old Kosovo thread you will find me conflicted about tactics chosen there, but that was a situation about which it was natural to be conflicted, in the end i never learned enough about it to retain abiding criticism of the principles underlying actions taken there

The US 'Commerce' department assault in August 2001 on my neighbours here in forestry is just one more example of the doctrine of your current regime .... i hadn't thought of it today until you brought it up, actually - there is a war on, you know ... but it's just another facet of the same thing, like telling all other nations there will be no parliament of nations to put a check on backroom Washington power, because we are gonna napalm anybody we damn well feel like napalming, because we're the eight thousand pound gorilla and you're not, so there

You might profitably make some attempt to stand back a little, try to observe your attitudes from the point of view of those who do not identify with the power group running your nation ..... several US nationals here can and do - Steven, Jakob, SirRealist, Bilow .... of course i do understand you're only posting at me because i can see this of Bilow, and you don't like that, but reflect - i did not point out the multitude of times he was precisely correct, and you were wrong

Of course another thing you were doing by taking this personal slant on me was to deflect from the Robin Cook piece .... now there's a chap with no illusions that he is somehow magically connected to the string-pullers, n'est-ce pas? - observer.co.uk
