Kastel Co.,
Re: It's more like a PR nightmare and the Bush admin will need to spin it FAR AWAY from Evil Islam. What do you think will be happening in your streets if they can't ?
Perhaps you haven't been reading the news. Within the past week, the FBI has rounded up dozens, if not hundreds, of Iraqi exiles in Dearborn, MI and across the country. The INS round-ups of the last couple of months have created a panicked crowd of Pakistani men to attempt to escape the U.S. into Canada. Random assaults on visitors to the U.S. from Norway and Ireland have got the message out that anyone with any human rights interests or Irish IRA connections can be regarded as persona non grata by the TSA, FBI, INS, or other agencies and held without habeus corpus rights.
One thing that I will insist that you start to realize is that the Bush team is the most amazing "bait and switch" shop on the face of the earth. They may talk a good game about their deep level of "concern" about hate crimes against Muslims in the U.S., but government actions trump government words. And the record since 9/11 has been a clear record of increasing intimidation, arrests and deportation for Muslims from the U.S.
As the famous investigative reporter I.F. Stone liked to say, there are only two words you need to remember: Governments Lie.
I've been watching the pattern with the Bushies for a long time now. They never, ever tell the truth in a straightforward way.
For example, Congressional Democrats held a press conference recently to complain that Bush had failed to fund the "Leave No Child Behind" program, which Bush cynically used as a photo op with Ted Kennedy before the elections. It is true. Bush welched on the deal. He cheated the schools. But he did put one stinker into the bill. He created a national system whereby schools were blackmailed into providing lists of high school students to intrusive military recruiters, else the schools would lose all Federal funding. Now, high schoolers across America are being harassed and hounded by these recruiters. That isn't exactly the scam that Bush said he was promoting with "Leave No Child Behind".
With Bush, you always must read between the lines because, let us review now, "Governments Lie".
And Bush is about the biggest liar on the face of the planet.
Do you recall the flap a month ago about how Bush, after promising to rebuild Afghanistan after the war, completely zeroed Afghanistan out of the FY 2004 budget? That was such a monumental bit of hubris and deceit that even the corrupt Congressional Republicans were embarassed and re-introduced funding into the budget.
Repeat after me. Bush lies. Bush lies. Bush lies.
But don't take my word for it:
nytimes.com
Bush lies about war, its flimsy justifications and why he gets us into the quagmire of Iraq. Bush lies about the economy and his budgets. Bush lies about his "compassionate conservatism".
Bush lies. |
