Dear Billow: if you want me to admit that the USUK is losing the war in Irak, please explain how come your people hold about as many Iraki generals prisoners as they hold your soldiers. Not to mention that your troops are in the outskirts of Badgad (secret) and not theirs around Koweit ?
Re Occupation after war: you claim that the US isn't good at it. Look at Germany, Italy, Japan.
The Japanese loved their emporor 100 times more than the Irakis love Saddam. They sacrificed their lives for victory in a way and numbers (crash landing included) that Iraki won't even nightmare on.
I've read about the wars in the last five thousand years possibly as much as you did, studied Arab psychology, often from within, (and it wasn't always a cake walk), more than you did (unless you are specialised) But somehow, we don't reach the same conclusions.
So our difference could be a questions of inner motivations.
I trust (read hope) that your guys will bring some sense to the crowds of the ME by showing the good exemple. Because if you don't do it, it will take a couple of generations before they get some political sense about the way to deal with their collective life. OTOH you may be scared that your people will be seen as the Ugly Americans, the oily imperialists etc.
IMO these Arab crowds are not simply hysterical. They are jealous. Jealous of your achievements. It hurts. I understand.
Finaly your statement that the Republicans are incompetant in diplomatic or military affairs does not fit with what I have seen, as of lately: the Chinese attack on your spy plane, NK non-crisis included and the UN gambit. And I am free from any political party, anywhere. I judge the motivations moves and results, and can only make mistakes.
It is not Bush that lost the diplomatic battle, it is Chirac, and now he knows it.
