As Adolf Hitler famously quipped: "It is lucky for leaders that the people do not think."

We like to believe, somehow, that we're different. I stumbled across a more subtle version of that thought while I was looking for some background information on Samuel Adams. What was he before he became a politician/Patriot? A university graduate that worked for his father at a successful brewery. Dad died, Samuel got the brewery which Samuel led into bankruptcy. After other career failures which included being a tax collector, he decided to go into politics [so what's different? <s>] In politics, he had a philosphy: Put your adversary in the wrong and keep him there. The only way that works is if people don't think.

One of those nasty oppressive laws that the patriots listed out along with the Stamp Act was the Quebec Act. The Quebec Act granted the people of Quebec religious freedom. I guess they figured people wouldn't check and it made the list longer. Funny.
