More info : Latest Mother Jones has article on Wolfowitz et al. Last weeks New yorker has Seymore Hersh's article / attack on Ricahrd Perle. RAND has been all over the place, without much of a concsistent political slant. The liberal think tanks, like Insitute for Policy Studies, which used to be a very prolific and effective leftist think tank, and the mainstream ones like Brookings, seem to have a failure of understanding of the post Cold War world, creating a policy vacumn... I would expect that they could start being relevant again if they work at it.
