For two hours this AM the Defense Dept issued statements that a UK aircraft was not shot down by a missile in/near Kuwait. Two hours later the DOD indicated that a UK aircraft was brought down by a US patriot missile. Which is true? That kind of un-truth is crap I have a serious problem with.

That's just breaking news, I think. If there was an intention to lie, they'd have stuck to the same story, instead of changing it. Changing it implies they learned and digested new info.

I suppose I really would want to know just exactly what oil deal did Saddam renege on, before Bush Sr. was President (NG).

Don't know what you're getting at - some unproven hearsay, perhaps? Iraq nationalized its oil industry back in the '70's like most of the other countries in the region.
