Morning Miss Foxlette.....
Tales from the home front.....
Went to a benefit for a local kids' choir Saturday night. There was a wine tasting as part of it, and numerous wines were offered, several from Italy, some from California, and .... none from France.
Then yesterday, there was a local kids' talent show, really just an opportunity to get kids in front of an audience..... some played an instrument, others danced and lip synched to the latest girl pop songs, one cute little third grade boy donned shades and played his instrument, "air guitar".
But the one that brought down the house was a little girl, first or second grade. I've seen her around the school, she has one of the genetic learning disabilities, I'm not sure which one. A very sweet kid, and very determined.
And she determined that she wanted to sing in the talent show. At the rehearsal, I'm told, she wasn't sure even how to follow the instructions on when to walk out or how to hold the microphone, but eventually she got the hang of it.
When the show started, she was the opening act. She wore a red sweatshirt with an American flag on it, and nervously walked over to the microphone and picked it up like she had been taught at rehearsal. They shined a spotlight on her, and with a big smile she sang, off key but in a way more on key than I have ever heard it, the song she had chosen: God Bless America.
She paused a couple of times, but remembered every word, and so did we. |
