What a strange week this has been. My head is spinning - the surrealness of events is breathtaking.

First there's the TV menu - basketball, golf, oscars, wars and protests.

People are shouting their points of view and it's not obvious anyone is listening to one another.

The soldier's worst nightmares have already happened - buddies getting killed and being captured.s

Trust me I know and respect the right for people to protest. Part of me is totally frustrated and enraged as the old tapes in my head start rolling. There is no more hollow feeling as a soldier than seeing protests going on. Where were these folks months ago? It was a visceral reaction...not particularly rational.

And then I listen to the flag wavers - I don't trust those bastards either. Are we now the cops of the world with the moral authority to determine what's a good regime and what's a bad one? When did this happen? Coalitions of countries are very important...so is diplomacy - all of us are smarter than any of us. Groups like the United Nations are critical - particularly the work they do for agriculture and children around the world. To say the UN is irrelevant is dangerous and short sighted.

I went to church yesterday and our minister starts in very hard against the war but in a far broader context that peace is far more difficult than war. At some levels he sounded deeply spiritual but naive to me (but he's a good man who I trust).

Too much chaos rattling around in my head this week. Thanks for listening.
