Reality? What a concept! <g>

My brother-in-law, a born again into the far right, angrily insisted to me that every nation on earth owes the U.S. money, and that Japan is the worst debtor nation on earth. I said that was exactly opposite, and asked who he thought was financing our trade deficit and much of our national debt when Americans themselves are not savers. This simply brought more ire. Needless to say, he's a religious supporter of the war, which I predicted because it conforms to his belief that crusades are necessary to convert infidels (bascially, all others whose views differ from his own who will ultimately burn in hell). I wish he was the only one like this, but there are millions in our own country.

How can one reason with a person whose beliefs can only be sustained by the conversion of all others (if possible) at any cost to vanquish nagging doubts and fears regarding their own mortality?
