The Iraqi army has approximately 1 million soldiers, not including local militias and secret police. Do the math. A few thousand have surrendered or deserted, a few thousand are dead. The rest are packed into Baghdad ready to ambush.

The war planners are so occupied with limiting collateral damage, they seem to have forgotten how to win.
