<<...The British View: Deaths shake confidence in U.S. procedures...>>

r1: We'll soon see how this 'coalition of the willing' will hold up...The war is starting to produce many painful UNintended consequences...Bush and Blair have bet their political futures on 'a quick and clean' war with Iraq... they were convinced that we HAD TO INVADE and we had no other option...they defied the United Nations and now they are in a tough position...I'm with our troops 100% BUT I feel Congress did not adequately debate the wisdom of 'a pre-emptive strike on Iraq'...I also contend that our President did not make a strong case about why we needed to invade Iraq right now -- he failed to adequately discuss the costs and risks BEFORE the bombs started dropping...Most likely you will see a lot of damage control coming out of our Pentagon and Administration leaders -- they will work to lower expectations since the war is not going according to plan...It's sad that things had to happen this way...Think how many innocent lives have been lost so far...Think how the United States has started to destabilize the Middle East...Think about the United States and its credibility abroad...Where was most of the Congress last fall and early this year -- asleep at the wheel...JMHO.
