Brooks Automation Names Joseph M. Bellini as Senior Vice-President Of Software Systems Group

CHELMSFORD, Mass., March 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brooks Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: BRKS - News), which delivers total automation for semiconductor and precision electronics manufacturing, today announced the hiring of Joseph M. Bellini, 43, as senior vice president of the Software Systems Group. Mr. Bellini most recently was chief executive officer of the software company eXcelon, which was merged into Progress Software in December 2002. His 20 years of software-related work experience embrace engineering, project management, sales and executive positions at companies that include EDS, Oracle and i2 Technologies.

Robert J. Therrien, chairman and chief executive officer of Brooks, said: "We are pleased that Joe Bellini has agreed to join Brooks as senior vice-president of our software systems group for semiconductor factory automation. His strong background as a software industry veteran and his track record of contributing to successful revenue growth made him the ideal candidate to lead the software division. Mr. Bellini became CEO of eXcelon in September 2001 following its acquisition of C-bridge Internet Solutions, a startup company of which he was also CEO. Mr. Bellini had taken C-bridge public in December 1999, and C-bridge grew rapidly in the subsequent 18 months, gaining recognition as being one of the fastest growing companies in New England. Prior to joining C-bridge, Mr. Bellini was a senior executive for 4 years at i2 Technologies during a time when the company's sales grew from $11 million to $350 million annually. In his role as vice-president of global industries he was responsible for revenues and products by vertical markets. He expanded the product footprint, partly through acquisitions, to provide supply chain solutions in asset intensive industries such as the automotive, semiconductor and similar high technology businesses. He also helped drive a push into other industries through innovative solutions for food and beverage, steel and textile manufacturing. Before i2, he was a senior practice director at Oracle for 3 years, preceded by 6 years in various technical and management roles at EDS. Mr. Bellini began his career at General Electric, working as an engineer for 3 years. He holds two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, and Mechanical Engineering. He also completed the PMD program at the Harvard Business School. Mr. Bellini holds a U.S. Patent for Extended Supply Chain Planning.
