Halliburton Unit Wins Contract to Snuff Iraqi Oil-Well Fires

Houston, March 24 (Bloomberg) -- Halliburton Co.'s
engineering and construction unit won a contract from the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers to extinguish Iraqi oil well fires and
repair damaged wells.
The unit's initial task will include responding to oil
spills, said Cathy Gist, a spokeswoman for Halliburton's Kellogg
Brown & Root subsidiary. Halliburton and the unit aren't
disclosing how much the contract is worth, she said.
Halliburton is the world's second-largest oilfield-services
company behind Schlumberger Ltd. The U.S. Defense Department had
selected Kellogg Brown & Root last year to develop a contingency
plan for assessing and quenching oil well fires in Iraq.
Halliburton shares fell 58 cents to $20.12 in New York Stock
Exchange composite trading.
