The russians (correction: Soviets)were in afghanistan for decades? What decades?

They invaded during the Carter yrs because they knew Carter would do nothing. Under reagan, the cia helped the afghanis with stinger SAM millses to take out the Soviet gunship helos.

And the Soviets were history in afghan. Until then they were winning easily.

What's the point?
