Patroller... glad you are still around. I think all the ugly stuff may not be out for the acquisitive standouts of the past and will create a sporting trading environment for those stocks 'til they are really clean. I think JBL will post 40%+ quarterly earnings gains Y/Y for a good while (over easy comps) and will hit a boost if we ever come out of this recession + war fear environment. The current JBL 25% forward P/E is a reflection of fear of betting anything on an outcome further forward than 2 months. I expect a 15x increase in forward P/E, (with unfolding increases in the E over time) as uncertainty decays. The potential kinetic energy of (shorts + sidelined money) continues to fascinate me. I think the same potential exists for the other guys as their E becomes clean and true (i.e. unaffected by prior or future write-offs and w/o fun and games with timing mechanics) That said, if the current fears continue, we could be flat for years. My intuition is that the clouds will suddenly clear one day and equities will pop to 1:1 PEG ratios on unmanipulated forward earnings before "one time charges". JMVHO while ashore.
