InfoLogix Sells Xplore Rugged Tablet Computers to Weyerhaeuser Company
Weyerhaeuser begins deployment, sets corporate rugged Tablet computer standard with InfoLogix and Xplore
InfoLogix Inc., a leading providers of mobile wireless computing hardware and consulting solutions to industries worldwide, today announced that it has sold 250 Xplore GeneSys® MaximumPRO rugged mobile computers to Weyerhaeuser Company, the $18.5 billion international forest products company. “The Xplore units are being installed in 42 Weyerhaeuser corrugated box-manufacturing sites across North America”, said Craig Wilensky, Vice President of InfoLogix.
“We have delivered and installed half of these units with the balance to be shipped this month,” Wilensky said. Weyerhaeuser selected the Xplore system following an extensive trial in which Weyerhaeuser compared the Xplore system against other market alternatives. “The Xplore product performed very well in this fork lift mounted application and as a result, Weyerhaeuser selected Xplore”, stated Wilensky.
Cassa Hanon of Weyerhaeuser, the Project Manager for this program said, “Our decision to select Xplore involved individuals from all parts of the corporation, since we were also looking for a company standard – a supplier who could not only work with this particular project, but in other areas of the company in the future.” Hanon said that initially the team was skeptical that Xplore would be its choice because “Xplore was considered cutting-edge and Weyerhaeuser had historically selected suppliers among more traditional computing companies.” According to Hanon, the committee was intrigued by a rugged tablet computer and selected Xplore’s GeneSys MaximusPRO to evaluate.
“Xplore’s product performance as well as people-to-people interaction was exceptional. The product not only met our criteria, but our workers were the ones who actually liked using it in their daily jobs. In fact, we were so pleased with Xplore’s product that it is now considered the company’s hardware standard for ruggedized applications in the future,” Hanon commented.

Richard Perley, Senior Vice President of marketing for Xplore, explained that the GeneSys MaximusPRO product is a highly ruggedized, tablet style mobile computer. “It has a large 12.1 inch XGA transmissive LCD screen, optically enhanced for increased brightness and clarity and a resistive digitizer that provides both touch and passive pen input. The unit is equipped with a 700 MHz Intel® Pentium® processor and uses Windows 2000 as its operating system. We’ve also integrated these systems with a Symbol 802.11 wireless LAN PC card which is protected and sealed within the GeneSys MaximusPRO housing.” Perley added that “an external Symbol bar code scanner plugs directly into each unit supporting inventory tracking throughout the various centers within Weyerhaeuser. At Weyerhaeuser the units are mounted on forklifts that operate both indoors and outside thereby requiring the units to withstand extreme temperatures, varying weather conditions and the constant vibrations from the forklifts where the units are installed. The GeneSys Maximus has recently undergone supplementary Military Standard testing and approvals by two of our US Military clients so our systems are ideally suited to the daily operating challenges of Weyerhaeuser’s application”.
