One way to do it is to offer current payers into the system a chance to opt out of social security in return for forfeiture of everything they've paid in. That would finance some of it. Another way would be to phase out benefits over time. Another way would be to bite the bullet sell social security bonds to cover what's owed and close the system down for good. I could go on, but it's not necessary. The thing is where there's a will there's a way. I'm sure much smarter people than me have come up with brilliant plans. I just hope we pick some path and go for it. I personally am sick of paying in money that isn't tagged to my social security number. I'd opt out and forfeit my 25+ years of contributions in a second, if given the chance.
