Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) was first recognized as a new disease in Asia in mid-February. Since then, more than 450 cases, with 17 deaths, have been reported from 13 countries on three continents.

The growth rate is steady. They have NOT got it anywhere near under control. As numbers increase, mutations increase, virulence increases, propagation increases, .... etc...

The bug is one step ahead of them. By the time somebody is sick and they round up all the people that person was in contact with, the bug has moved on to the next people. There is no way to know who has been contacted out of all the contacts people have each day.

The Japanese style of bowing in greeting is a good idea. Maori hongis are a bad idea. A very bad idea! That's holding noses together and mingling breath on greeting. Sloppy kisses are definitely not ideal.

<Update on cases and countries affected
Reports from health authorities in 13 countries, compiled today, indicate a cumulative total of 456 cases of SARS and 17 deaths. This compares with reports a week ago (17 March) of 150 cases in 7 countries.Cumulative total of reported cases, 24 March.
