The russians (correction: Soviets)were in afghanistan for decades? What decades?
"Soviets" were involved in Afgah. in one way or another (not necessarily militarily) since the early 70's (further back if you take into account border conflicts) thru the 80's.. the "Soviet" Union began the systematic, phased withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan in 1988.. so, to answer your questions.. the 70's and 80's are the 'decades' I speak of..
Instead of proving your ignorance by asking what to most people would be a rhetorical questions.. why dont you focus your efforts on commenting on what Karzi said about US involvement in Afgah., and the fact that it still remains a very volatile situation where the president himself cannot travel freely thru out his country without heavy armed protection..
You know what.. never mind.. its pointless to argue with someone of your limited capacities.. We started this discussing the "Freedom Iraq" propaganda the US gov. was dishing out.. Not Afghanistan A propaganda which the likes of you obviously believe.. A propaganda which led the average US citizen to believe this would be a cakewalk and are now realizing that this mad man, does have an army of 350K, most of which dont seem too eager to welcome US with fear and surrender, but rather with resistance and death. And even though the outcome is not is question the US will suffer heavy casualties.. Casualties not experienced by Americans since Vietnam, where approx. 1 out of every 15 men/women that served died... People were lead to believe we'd go in there, drop a few bombs from planes like we did during the gulf war and they'd all tremble in fear and just give up. An interesting poll conducted by a news agency asked how many casualties of war the average American was expecting during this conflict. Over 80% of the respondents answered 100-300.. (which perfectly mirrored our losses during the gulf war where 1 out of every 1500 men who served died) But apparently the average American (you) have forgotten our mission here.. We are trying to take control of an entire country, a country whose supposed hate for its leader is do doubt surpassed several times by hate of America and its policies. A country whose citizens seem willing and able to defend their sovereignty vigorously.. This is not the Gulf war, this is not just drop a few bombs and we win.. We will suffer heavy casualties because of this administrations cowboy attitude. What then will the average American think (same one who only expects 100-300 casualties) when they see reports of entire divisions of men killed.. When the list of names becomes to long to remember or even matter.. When thousands of US families feel the pain and loss which only war can so bitterly deliver.. We'll see what difference "freeing" any Iraqi will matter to the families of those we've lost, and those we will continue to lose.. Im sure we'll be able to count on the likes of you and your first born to fortify out front lines..
